Sharon Simpson, along with four others are the creators and hosts of Death Matters Live, a weekly conversation about death, dying and loss.
Death Matters Live is the brainchild of Jeffrey Young and Leela Chenniah. Following the Celebration of Life for her mother, Leela Chenniah turned to Jeffrey Young (officiant) and suggested a radio show about death, dying and loss. Jeffrey had recently walked with her through the loss and grief of her mother and Leela had gained an additional level of appreciation for his capacity to make others comfortable with death, dying and loss.
Jeffrey Young gathered a team of hosts around him and together we held the inaugural Death Matters Live radio show on July 1, 2015. Sharon Simpson, along with Stephen Garrett, Mara Lees and Abegael Fisher-Lang share the privilege of bringing the topic of death back to life. Each are experts in their own area with respect to death, dying and loss.
Sharon Simpson’s expertise lies in her work as a senior executive on BC’s largest campus of care for the elderly, Menno Place. With an average age of 88, the 700 seniors who live on the Menno Place campus are very aware of end-of-life. Conversations about death, dying and loss come freely and easily with these seniors. Sharon enjoys the authenticity and inspiration she gains from the conversations. These insights have opened her own spirit to a less fearful way of thinking about her own elder years and the challenges she will face.
Sharon has become an advocate for seniors – through her monthly articles and her work on Death Matters Live radio show.
As a host of Death Matters Live, Sharon brings an ease and grace to her interviews with guests, drawing out their insights with authenticity and genuine connectivity.
The show was hosted by Vancouver Coop Radio and had its final show in 2018.
